Hi! I am so happy you’re here!
My name is Abigail (Abbie) Hudgins. I am currently a Resident in Counseling (RIC) located in Mathews, Virginia. I graduated from Liberty University with a Master’s Degree (MA) in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Additionally, I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology conferred by the University of Virginia. I am currently trained in both Phase One and Phase Two of Brainspotting (see below for more info).
I am passionate about shifting stereotypes surrounding the mental health field. Growing up in a small town, I am aware of the stigma that surrounds seeking mental health services, including counseling. I desire to create an environment free of judgement, expectation, and assumption. I believe in meeting my clients wherever they are in life and facilitating the therapeutic process in a way that motivates client empowerment. I look forward to working with you!
I enjoy working with children, adolescents and young adults at different stages of life; I have worked with a range of concerns, including trauma, anxiety, depression, anger management, life-transitions, relational issues, and difficulties with emotional regulation. I can accept Anthem BCBS, Optima, and Aetna. My self pay rate is $100/1hr session. I have openings for new clients (in person or virtual) on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
My style of counseling is a person-centered approach with an emphasis on the therapeutic relationship and attunement to your needs. Theoretically, I am passionate about investigating internal thought processes collaboratively and working through how they may inform our feelings, which in turn impact our behaviors. I utilize Brainspotting and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy into my counseling work, but tailor your treatment plan to your exact needs and goals.

All clinicians at Seeds of Change Counseling are trained in and passionate about Brainspotting.
Are you CURIOUS?
It is a type of psychotherapy developed by Dr. David Grand to break through the barriers of trauma in a way that traditional talk therapy cannot. Targeting the parts of the brain where trauma is stored, this powerful, focused treatment allows clients to transform debilitating memories and negative beliefs surrounding a traumatic incident. By identifying, processing, and releasing core neuro-physiological sources of emotional and physical pain as well as coping mechanisms associated with PTSD, clients are able to channel the healthy “head” knowledge they possess underneath their traumatic experiences.
